What Our Guests have Said . . .Tim Sheppard of Discover Mexico Magazine, Toronto, Canada Marvelous hosts. Breakfast on the terrace with a memorable view. My stay is not yet over, but first impressions are everything, and mine are happy ones. I'll be back!Laura_Sanchez -Laura_Sanchez10@hotmail.com Your property is truly magnificent, a creative oasis above an equally charming village. However it is the two of you that have made this trip so meaningful. Thank you for your generosity, inspiration and kindness. Whitney - wbabbott@altavista.com A truly magical stay. We are in love with Jocotepec people, their colorful culture and equally brilliant smiles. Thank you for everything...wonderful conversations around the breakfast table while Pepe (parrot) showed off his acrobtics...our lovely paseo with you on Sunday. Jeanie and Wayne Mortenson jmortens@t-one.net "Ambiable hosts, clean, comfortable, artfully decorated living quarters, proximity to quaint villages as well as beautiful, historic Guadalajara: these are just a few of the ingredients that made our stay at Los Dos B and B as delicious to the senses as a tropical fruit salad." Terumi - US navy librarian in Japan, will respond directly if Los Dos sends her inquiries from prospective Japanese guests "My stay at Los Dos was very special. Even though I was traveling alone, I felt as if I was having a nice vacation with my family. Starting each morning with a nice breakfast at the balcony with friendly Phyllis and Georg and their lovely dogs looking down at Lake Chapala was something I"ll always remember. I enjoyed visiting some other nice villages nearby as well as just doing nothing at their garden with a swimming pool. I would love to come back and stay for a few weeks next time, and maybe I would like to take some painting lessons if they offer (I fell in love with Georg's paintings). Jim and Bonnie Stone, Michigan 723stone@concentric.com "We had an exceptionally enjoyable time at Los Dos B and B during our two week stay in February 2000. We look forward to returning in the near future." Sandy and Hugh, Illinois csutton@cin.net "You have such a nice home, with such a beautiful setting, in a very nice village, that I have to believe that the two of you really enjoy being alone sometimes, so you can enjoy it together. Thank you again for making us feel so welcome in your home. We were still debating extending our stay during the taxi ride back to the airport. Thanks also for the Spanish lessons and advice on Mexico. The kindness that you shared with us made our trip very special." Wolf and Chris Klose - JUNGLE CAT WORLD, CANADA - info@junglecatworld.com "Often I think back of the wonderful time we had this January at Los Dos B and Breakfast, in beautiful Jocotepec. The deluxe casita was authentically decorated in Mexican style with the true artist's touch. The view from the balcony was truly breathtaking, it felt like living in a jungle, with the overwhelming and gorgeous vegetation, although the town is just a short walk away. Especially enjoyed were the sumptuous breakfasts on your great patio and the wonderful conversations with your and your guests. Hopefully we can return again soon. Kay Williams retired, Seattle and daughter Amy Hunthausen kay@pacifier.com Los Dos was a wonderful place for us to stay on our trip to Mexico...quiet and peaceful yet easily accessible to the surrounding area. Phyllis and Georg Rauch are the perfect hosts." Juan and Mondie, California paragliders juan.laos@realpvs.com "The Los Dos B and B is the most relaxing and comfortable place we have ever stayed in Mexico. The suites are spacious and private, the gardens and patio areas are absolutely beautiful and the hosts are some of the nicest and warmest peple we have ever met!! When we go there to stay it's more like "going home" than going somewhere strange to stay. Its so nice to be able to walk to the market or just lounge around the pool and watch the sunset and relax. We are going again this year as we do every year since we discovered the place." Kim Galvin, paraglider kim_galvin@mpsh.com "An artist from Austria and his American wife (who is also an artist) run the Los Dos B and B in Jocotepec. Their property was like an oasis..a lush retreat above the nearby agricultural village, with a view of the largest lake in Mexico,Lake Chapala. Phyllis and Georg make you feel like you're part of their family." Toby & Joan Erickson, Canada pocotoby@uniserve.com "Our stay at Los Dos was excellent and we will be returning again. The warm family feeling made us feel welcome and completely at home. The gardens and views are terrific. Situated at the edge of Jocotepec with easy access to downtown. We hope to make the area a permanent residence for us in the near future." Dave and Pat – "Just want to thank you for all you have done for us. You're B and B is the best and the dogs are also so nice, so we did not miss our own so much. Hope to see you in a few weeks and you can teach me about planting flowers." I loved spending the Christmas holidays with you and your extended family of dogs and cats. I am honestly reluctant to leave now, but I suppose it's only fair to let someone else come in and share the wealth. I hope to come back to this wonderful place in the future. I can't praise or thank you enough, so in the words of Tigger, ta-ta for now." Mary Ann Johnson – maryannrncwcn@home.com " Your warmth and caring made us feel truly "at home." The breakfasts, the view, the talk, the singing, the dogs, cats, and Pepe, are all special and I will always remember this time fondly because of you." Peter and Catherine Waldron – "Every year when we return to winter in New England, we think of you here in the sunshine with flowers, art, great views of the lake and the mountains, the song of birds and the comforting echoes of daily life: celebrations in the neighborhoods of Jocotepec. Yesterday Peter and I saw a man walking his pig on a leash! Every venture into town brings funs surprises and the chance to enjoy at each return to Los Dos B and B the garden unfolding like a greeting card, congratulating us for our stamina climbing that steep last 20 yards to the gate. We truly are blessed to spend time with you in this wonderful place."Maryann Heimsath, Texas – We thank you for welcoming us to your home in Mexico. It has become our home as well. We look forward to each year joining our "Jocotepec family" again for Christmas. Steve and Ana Miller– smiller31_lol@yahoo.com "From a cold and damp Ireland..Thank you for a wonderful evening and for your friendship. Your home is the same dream that we are working towards. We'll see you again soon." Don and Barbara, Feb. 2002 – "Having come from the ice and snow of Ottawa to faraway Jocotepec, not knowing exactly what we would find. We found very comfortable accommodations in the Casita. It was beyond our highest expectations. But more we found hospitality and a genuinely warm reception. Most of all, we found new friends – not only you two, but also the other guests who we met during our stay. We think that we have "discovered " one of North America's best kept vacation secrets, Los Dos at Jocotepec. We were both amazed at Georg's willingness to share with us his lifetime of art experience. It was an experience we will never forget." Carol and Dwight Hooker, Arizona Feb. 2002 DDHOOk@aol.com "Not to be overlooked here at this very beautiful B and B is the opportunity to admire some of Mexico's most beautiful birds as they gather to enjoy an early morning dip in the bird bath. To name just a few: streak-backed and hooded orioles, blue grosbeaks, varied buntings, western tanagers, violet crowned and broad billed hummingbirds, Virginia's and Lucy's warblers, lesser goldfinch, white-collared seedeaters. And should one eventually tire of this passing parade, then a visit to the lakeshore is in order, where there abound American avocets, black necked stilts, white pelicans, snowy, great and cattle egrets, white-faced Ibis, green winged teal, northern shovelers, tricolored herons. I could go on. Fellow travelers, consider Howell's A Bird Finding Guide to Mexico and Howell's A Guide to the Birds of Mexico and Central America." Lester and Linda –February 2002 "We enjoyed our mini-vacation with you in your lovely home. I truly feel you have paradise here in Jocotepec. The views are outstanding and waking up to the roosters and lovely aromas of your flowers were my favorite parts. Enjoying breakfast with you and your guests was a very interesting way to start the day. We will definitely be back." John and Maryann Renton, Lancashire, UK – "To come from far- off England we hoped for an expected peaceful and stimulating experience. We were not disappointed!! A lovely and comfortable residence, a breakfast that matched everything England can do, afternoon tea with biscuits (cookies to some). But the real gem of our visit has been the friendship and delightful tales and stories emanating from Phyllis and Georg. We shall have much to tell our friends back home. Perhaps they will be encouraged to f follow in our pioneering footsteps. Our best wishes and already looking forward to a longer stay in February 2003." Art and Ruth McGinnis, Sechelt, Sunshine Coast, B.C. March 02- "Friends say 'Why Jocotepec?' To that I reply, 'to rub shoulders again with you, Georg, your art and philosophy!! And the great hospitality of you, Phyllis and Georg and the omelet!" Joe, Carolynn and Judy de Profio – March 2002 – 'It is seldom that one looks for accommodation and find companionship and excitement, as well as a roof over one's head. A highlite for us were the lovely grounds where we found more than 40 species of southern birds right outside our door and another 25 species in our early morning walks to the lake. Thanks for creating such a lovely place and for making us feel so welcome!" John and Maryann Renton, Waddington, Lancashire Feb 03 "Thank you both again for such a special relaxing holiday. We enjoy the total set up, with John particularly enjoying football chat with Manuel! We're trying hard to take on board the lessons in perspective given freely by Georg when he saw our own efforts. Phyllis' adventures with the turtles also kept us very amused. Breakfasts with "world politics' fascinated us too. Looking forward to seeing you next year."Natalie Shoop – March 03 "Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven. I only wish we could stay longer. Don't forget, if you ever need a dog sitter I'd love the job. God has richly blessed you, may he continue to smile on you and Los Dos." To be in Los Dos is to experience the art of living in living art. And every day is a revelation that truth, beauty and goodness can be fostered and upheld as a matter of recognition of the human spirit and that the world can be a beautiful place indeed. Many thanks, especially for making it all look so effortless when actually so much work, love and devotion goes into Los Dos." Diane: "How wonderful for me it was to see my mother so happy and well – time with my mother in such positive ways is precious to me. I have never had such a wonderful opportunity and place to spend time with her." Anjo and Tom Mills - Nov. 2003 tmills1485@yahoo.com We will have such fun telling our friends about our stay with you and we hope to return soon. It will be fun to see the new addition. Thank you for a restful stay and introduction to real Mexico. Jan and Gary – Minnesota 2/04 "We leave rested and w wondering when we will return – as we surely will. Los Dos floats above the activity of the highway, lake and village. It is a place of serenity with the mass and calming of the ever-present mountains. This time has been an experience that we are unable to fully assess at this moment. The passage of time will give us perspective and insight. Thank you for all that the two of you added to a warm winter break. So many memories." Philip and Nancy Vogt nmvogt@aol.com Aug 2004 Our stay in the Aerie was heavenly! The view is incredible, so peaceful and beautiful. The cool breezes at night feel so good and assure you of a great night's sleep. The accommodations, the weather, the view – all wonderful. Our hosts made a wonderful stay even better. Their kindness and hospitality brightens each day here. WE feel blessed to know them. Thank you doesn't seem enough, but we will say it, thank you. We will be back. Norm and Lil Stevens, New York NHStevens@aol.com "We did not know what to expect for our first extended vacation in Mexico, especially after arriving late at night. Our anxiety was short-lived. We slept well for a month, although the first night had me counting gunshots (the fiesta was in full swing) and we had never experienced fireworks in the middle of the night. I should have known wen the church bells rang and the band played. Climbing your mountain is a must. I never made it to the top, but the cross and shrine are reachable. Our accommodations at Los Dos were just right. The spaciousness and solid fixtures are a perfect fit at Los Dos. We thank you for your advice, good company, letting us learn what "professional art people" are like and a fun time learning Mexican train. Our month flew by too quickly." Katie and Gary Walker, Lincoln, CA "Thank you for a rich and inspirational time at your wonderful home. This is going to be one of those memories that will remain in my heart. I never imagined sleeping in a bed that was surrounded by amazing art; in a place where it was created. You are both incredible people. Your hospitality made us feel at home here. Who knows? Maybe someday we will be neighbors." Brian and Charlotte Ternoway, Markham, Ont. Bternaway@sympatico.ca "We have enjoyed every day of our stay here and have learned so much about Mexico and its people. Starting every morning in conversation over breakfast on your terrace was a treat. We enjoyed meeting and chatting to so many new people. Our casita was such a comfortable home base for our various day trips. Thank you for your warm hospitality." Michelle Marcotte and Ken Vick marcotteconsulting@comcast.net "Thank you so much for a visit that relaxed, inspired, informed and delighted. Your home was our center for exploration and enjoyment. We hope to return soon and look forward to reading your book again." Diana, Karl and Thomas Wahl. Florida Sept. 05 "In a world full of mediocre hospitality, it's nice to find a jewel like Los Dos. High above a quaint village one can escape to an oasis that brings you back to the simple things in life: art, nature, beauty, friendship and true happiness. We are forever inspired. Thank you for sharing your home." Rick and Wanda Cowlishaw 11/05 toothangel1@comcast.net "Five days was far too short a time to experience it all, though we did our best. Georg your suggestion to visit Mazmitla was indeed a charming change in scenery. I'll remember my horse back ride. We so enjoyed spending time with you in your studio. I look forward to the book. Phyllis thank you for your many good suggestions. I hope your turtle adventure was successful. Los Dos is on my list for places to return to." Bob

The view is incr2/edible, so peaceful and beautiful. The cool breezes at night feel so good an assure you of a great night's sleep. The accommodations, the weather, the view-all wonderful. Our hosts, Phyllis and Georg are such delightful people. The made a wonderful stay even better. Their kindness and hospitality brightens each day here. WE feel blessed to know them. Phyllis and Georg, Thank you doesn't seem enough – but we'll say it, heartfelt, thank you! We will be back. We did not know what to expect for our first extended vacation in Mexico, especially after arriving at night, not knowing how to operate your gate and having Bonnie staring at me through the gate (he was smiling thankfully) Our anxiety was short-lived. We slept well for a month although the first night had me counting gun0-shots (the fiesta was in full swing and we had never experienced fireworks in the middle of the night. I should have known when the church bells rang and the band played. We did all the sights including seeing the Volcano de Colima mini-erupt twice. WE thought the Tequila Express was great fun. Climbing your mountain is a must. I never made it to the top, but the top and shrine are reachable. Now we are off to Oahu. Also a very beautiful place but a much busier experience. Certainly not as laid back as this part of Mexico. Our accommodations were just right. The spaciousness and solid fixtures are a perfect fit at Los Dos. We thank you for your advice, good company, letting us learn what a professional art people are like and a fun time learning Mexican train. Our month flew by too quickly. Norm and lil Stevens nhstevens@aol.com 2/20/05 Thank you for a rich and inspirational time at your wonderful home. This is going to be one of those memories that will remain in my heart. I never imagined sleeping in a bed that was surrounded by amazing art; in a place where it was created. You are both incredible people. Your hospitality made us feel at home here. Who knows. Maybe someday we will be neighbors, Katie and Gary Walker, Lincoln, CA 2/15/05 When we first arrived, late at night and transcended Calle Rico, we didn't realize what a 'rich" experience we would have. We have enjoyed every day of our stay here and have learned so much about Mexico and its people. Starting every morning in conversation over breakfast on your terrace was a treat. WE enjoyed meeting and chatting to so many new people. Our casita was such ha comfortable home base for our various day trips. Living with such talented artists has been such a unique opportunity for us to grow. Thank you for your warm hospitality! Brian and Charlotte Ternaway, Markham Ontario bternaway@sympatico.ca 3/05 Another enjoyable week at Los Dos. Made a day trip to Mazamitla and had very birding there as well as around your property. Heading back to Ontario and hoping spring has arrived there. Muchas Gracias, Rita and Ross, Oakville, Ontario

Five days was far too short a time to experience it all, though we did our best. Georg your suggestion to visit Mazamitla was indeed a charming change in scenery. I'll remember my horseback ride. We so enjoyed spending time with you in your studio. I look forward to the book. Phyllis thank you for your many good suggestions. I hope our turtle adventure was successful. Los Dos in on my list for places to return to. It is an escape to paradise Wanda and Rick Cowlishaw toothangel1@comcast.net 9/2005 In a world full of mediocre hospitality, it's nice to find a jewel like Los Dos. High above a quaint village one can escape to an oasis that brings you back to the simple things in life: art, nature, beauty, friendship and true happiness. We are forever inspired. Thank you for sharing your home. Diana, Karl, Thomas Wahl Florida 11/26/05 We thank you so very much for all your kindness and hospitality. Whenever we are back again this way we will stay at Los Dos…it's lovely. Love Mary, Gene and Jamey 12.26.05 I had fun? Yes. Love, Ruben (7 years old) What a great Christmas 2005 was have had in our first Christmas as parents! Ruben and Eric did not know what to except when we told them about Mexico. Now the sunshine, swimming, hiking, flowers, birds, lizards and trees of Los Dos B and B and Jocotepec have captured their imaginations and thrilled their senses, just as Peter and I experienced it on our own in past years. Our family's time together here is a joy we will always treasure. Love Catherine and Peter Waldron, Mass. US Dec 2005Thank you for your hospitality. Above a very rustic village is a quiet oasis. Los Dos Bed and Breakfast. Enjoyed the people and experience. We must return again. Thanks, Bob and Julia Novak …and Tuppence. Albuquerque, NM Jan 2006We loved staying here. The casita is wonderful, lovely breakfasts, the company and, of course, the "children" the cats and dogs. Maryann and Ed, Albuquerque, NM Jan 2006We came as guests to Los Dos and we leave, a month later, feeling more like family. Phyllis and Georg, you welcomed us to Jocotepec with hospitality, growing into eventual affection. Stories about Los Dos in the early years and Georg's war time experiences, shared during several dinners and daily breakfasts helped to form a true friendship. We will remember this trip for a lifetime and we3 look forward to returning next year. Catherine and John. I cannot leave without mentioning what a pleasure it gave me to read Georg's book aloud to him. It enriched my life. Memories of it, this wonderful place, and my precious moments with you both will fuel me for a long time. Fondest regards Catherine Fournier, Toronto Jan 06 Nice seeing you again. Thanks again and all the best, The Vaithswarans and the Parsas Jan 5, 07Thank you for making us feel so welcome and all your help What a haven of tranquility after all the noise and bustle of Chapala and Ajijic. Your garden was the perfect place to unwind. All the best, Jill and Gunais (England) 23 January 07 Phyllis, Thank you so much for your hospitality. My father and I feel very much at home here. It was wonderful to hear my father open up and share WWII stories with you. Sincerely, Gudrun Sweatt and Harold Clausen February 2 07 Phyllis, Two weeks ago, when our taxi turned into Calle Rico we both wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. However treasures are often found in the most unexpected places. Los Dos is certainly a gem. Thank you for your hospitality, good food and conversation and letting me tag along with you when Mitch wasn't feeling well. Hope the framing of Georg's paintings turn out well. Enjoy your travels the c coming year. Mitchel and Larna Corbin, Washington, N.C. Feb 12, 2007A wonderful two weeks that we hope we'll have a chance to repeat! Carlo and Maura Giuliani, Ottawa, Ontario Feb 28, 07Thank you Phyllis. We have had such a marvelous relaxing and enjoyable time here. We felt very much at home once the warm weather arrived. You've been such a wonderful hostess, providing information and suggestions to get us acquainted with the area. So much so that we are seriously making our winter home here in the near future. Thank you also for introducing Georg's work to us and sharing some of your memorable lives together. For us it has been a fascinating experience. A thank you as well to Mari, Manuel, and Rita for their assistance and patience to our needs and our bad Spanish. We will certainly recommend Los Dos to everyone we know as a truly unique and friendly environment in which to experience this beautiful part of Mexico. Mike and Eileen Connell, Toronto Canada Feb 28 2007Our third visit to Los Dos in just over a year! It's hard to look back and imagine that such a wonderful new life here would have opened up to us. Los Dos feels like a 2nd home to us now. Every time we go away for a few days to see other parts of Mexico, we can't wait to come back here to you and "home!" Los Dos is a different place without Georg, that's true. However to us his spirit is very much alive here. WE see him through his paintings, his whimsical touches sin the gardens, through everything the two of you created here together! Yes, Los Dos is a different place, but no less magical. It is evolving ever so subtly into our place, Phyllis, a place we know we will return to again and again. Catherine Fournier . I echo Catherine's sentiments 100%! We were happy to see you and be able to help you as you adjust to life without Georg. We think you are doing wonderfully and look forward to your visit to Canada! John Harvey March 10, 2007We truly enjoyed the experience. Thanks so much. Dale and Amy LaBrie Traverse City, Michigan What a truly enjoyable spot – and enjoyable people, both staff and guests. Larry Howley, Kalamazoo, MichiganA beautiful place with a warm and welcoming hostess. Thank you. Mo and Chaviva Hollman March 17, 07 Thank you for a wonderful, enlightening vacation. Our breakfast chats were inspirational and we so appreciated all your advice. Thanks again, Loretta and Stanley Bresh lsbresh@cs.com March 21st, 07 Why have we returned here so often? Simple! It's the most beautiful spot in all of Mexico! And to boot you get a great hostess (and in the past great host – God bless you Georg) ! Konrad and Jackie Brinck, Toronto, Canada 3/22/07 We very much enjoyed our visit to Los Dos Jocotepec and the Lake Chapala area. Our first trip and certainly not the last. Our walks up the mountain and to the town square were energizing for a couple of folks who spent most of the winter holing up in Wisconsin. You Phyllis and Georg certainly created a wonderful and relaxing place with great accommodations, beautiful art and grounds. Just what a couple of innkeepers needed to recharge our batteries. I know it's been difficult with the recent loss of your husband and life partner, but what memories the two of you created. Even though we never met George in this life, we feel we have, through the reading of his book, The Jew with the Iron Cross. How the human s spirit triumphs over hardship – the kind most of us never experience – and reawakens to a creative and spiritual existence so obvious in h is art. Thanks for your hospitality and sharing your home with us. Also enjoyed meeting and talking with our fellow guests – interesting people all. Many more healthy, happy years, Ken and Judy Dahlberg, Canyon Road Inn B and B, Turtle Lake Wisconsin USA March 22, 07 Phyllis, if I had known how beautiful and relaxing your Los dos was, I would have booked for longer! It's glorious here and you are so helpful and sympatica. Your staff too are so amable. I think I have had the loveliest Suite here. Good wishes and I really hope to return. Olwen Cox, Ontario Canada April 16, 07 Phyllis, We enjoyed our stay here very much. You and our staff are most gracious and helpful. We really appreciated youru help with taking us to the doctor :-( and toand to water aerobics J The casita was very comfortable and your gardens, pool etc were very lovely and relaxing. Thanks for everything and we will plan on see you when you come to Alaska this summer. Paul and Barbara Jackson, Chugiak, Alaska pbkj@gci.net We’ve just returned from our 6th visit to Los Dos over the past 11 years. It is hard to say what draws us back to this little Paradise every 2nd year; The breathtaking setting overlooking Lake Chapala, The hospitality of our hostess Phyllis Rauch, The efficiency and helpfulness of her staff Rita, Maria and Manuel, who keep the grounds and facilities in immaculate condition, Or the cutest and most lovable collection of cats and dogs we’ve ever encountered. Even though we missed Georg Rauch, who passed away last year, we constantly felt his presence by looking at his great paintings that are decorating every room and by visiting his studio that is kept the way it was when he was still alive. We sure hope to return many more times; Los Dos is very special to us. |
